Backpacker Visa Expansion – India, Mexico included

Australia’s Immigration Minister David Coleman is in discussions about expanding the work and holiday visa to clients from India, Brazil, Mexico.

These places would be in addition to the existing caps for other nations. These changes have been welcomed by Australian farmers and are an important step towards streamlining Australia’s immigration program to better serve the regional demand and overall.

Recently Greece and Ecuador were added to this program and also places were increased for certain countries.

The applicants for this program must meet certain minimum requirements, such as functional level of English and a tertiary qualification or a path leading to tertiary qualification, before a visa can be granted.

Countries that are targeted in this expansion are:

  • Mexico
  • Philippines
  • Switzerland
  • Fiji
  • Solomon Islands
  • Croatia
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Andorra
  • Monaco
  • Mongolia
